Heading towards a suspicious showdownOf his Miffy statue Heading towards a suspicious showdown, he says: ‘I’m an avid reader of detective novels, especially the Saint novels by Leslie Charteris, for which Dick Bruna designed the covers. I have collected and read dozens of them. I admire Dick Bruna for his dedication and the clarity of his approach. The black silhouette figures he used on the covers were the starting point for my Miffy statue design: I transformed my dolls and figures into heroic private detectives.’
